Carbonisable Substances (Insolubles)

This test is designed to determine the level of carbon and other insoluble substances in diesel engine oil in order to establish if an oil change is required. It is particularly of interest to the marine industry.

A test kit, 415080 (AF508) is supplied for this test and replacement accessories are available. The required wet chemicals (Solvent) are not supplied. The range of the disc is "0.2-2.0% insolubles in lubricating oil."

A Pass/Fail test for carbonisable substances in white mineral oil as per ASTM D565 is also available.

1 x 142000 Lovibond^® 2000+ Comparator
1 x White Mineral Oils Comparator Disc 291610. and 1x AF260 Shaking tube.

Also available is a Pass/Fail test for the British Pharmacopoeia sulphuric acid test for Liquid Paraffin. Items required are as follows:

1x 142000 Lovibond 2000+Comparator 1x Comparator Disc 296490 and 1x W680/OG/10mm cell

Note: The Lovibond Daylight 2000+ is recommended to ensure a good quality light source of the correct colour temperature.
